Hans Spijkerman (1943), sociologist, has experience in working in a culturally diverse setting. After years of working for the educational service of Novib, he became director of Osmose, a Guelders consultancy agency for multicultural cases. At this moment, he is working on a thesis on intercultural communication processes. He is focused on analysing ethnic and cultural diversity cases and finding solutions. Therefore, he founded D-BRIDGE, and joined STRATCH.
Especially for analysing problems, if possible, he uses the results of scientific research. He thinks that solutions should not solely be directed by ethnic and moral motives. According to the D-BRIDGE method, the interests and responsibilities of those involved should be the guide in a problematic case. In that case, the chosen solutions are maintainable and sustainable and will contribute to the vitality of both the organisation and society.
Hans is focused on bringing those involved in multicultural problems into dialogue with each other and to reach agreements on their different issues and responsibilities. It is essential that this dialogue becomes constructive and effective for all discussion partners. Group processes and personal preferences also play a part, and also intercultural effectiveness by means of personal competences. He talks about this enthusiastically to show how cultural differences can lead to vitality in the end.
